CCTG Update: Protection Human Research Participant Training

Memo from Jessica Sleeth
The purpose of this memorandum is to provide an update on the Investigator requirement to complete Protection of Human Research Participant Training. As of September 26th 2018, the NIH Office of Extramural Research (OER) no longer offer the current free Protecting Human Research Participant (PHRP) training course and will not offer an alternative. In alignment with the NIH, CCTG confirms that the CITI Human Subjects Research Course is an acceptable option for Human Subjects Protection training as well as human subject protection training courses developed and administered at the institutional level.

Transition Timeline and Requirements

If you completed the NIH PHRP training course prior to 2018SEP26 that certification remains valid and nothing further is required. Moving forward, the CITI Human Subjects Research Courses can be used to satisfy this requirement. Either the CITI Basic Biomedical Modules (US Training) or the CITI Biomedical Research (Canadian N2 Training) are acceptable. In all cases, certificates can be emailed to roster@ctg.queens.ca or uploaded in the Roster Interface and Participant List Environment (RIPPLE) for processing.

If applicable, institutions who have developed and administered an independent Human Subject Protections training course may submit training information to training@ctg.queensu.ca for evaluation of reciprocity.
