Excellence in Clinical Trials Conduct award presented to Sharon Turnell

Congratulations to Sharon Turnell who was presented the CCTG Excellence in Clinical Trials Conduct Award at the CCTG Spring Meeting for her continued excellence in clinical trial operations and compliance at her home institution, Saint John Regional Hospital.

“I would like to thank Dr Burnell, Dr Naz and Dr Reiman for nominating me.  It was unexpected surprise, and I was a bit overwhelmed.  I would also like to thank my co-workers.  Without them I would not be here.  Their support over the years is amazing.  Lastly, I would like to thank everyone at CCTG, without your patience and guidance, I am not sure I would have lasted as long.”

Sharon Turnell is a registered nurse working at the Saint John Regional Hospital as a research Coordinator for the Oncology department.  Since 1986, she has worked in various positions within the Corporation where her jobs have included general nursing duties in Internal Medicine, Palliative Care, Intravenous Resource.  Sharon, then moved to the outpatient setting, working in adult and pediatric oncology. In her current role, Sharon, manages the oncology clinical trials office conducting clinical studies according to FDA regulations and guidelines, screens and recruits potential study participants and ensures the safety and welfare of the study participants. In 1999 Sharon received her is certification with the Canadian Nurses Association in Oncology Nursing (CONc), as well as her certificate as a Clinical Research Coordinator (CCRC).  In 2023 she supervised the consolidation of hematology oncology trial division within medical and radiation oncology trial division.  Sharon lives with her husband, Allan.  She has a son, Colin and two grandchildren. When not working, Sharon is looking after her grandchildren but tries to find time for running having completed 5 full marathon and numerous half marathons.
