Please join CCTG on March 5 from 1:30 to 3:00 pm EST for a virtual roundtable on integrating equity, diversity, and inclusion in cancer clinical trials. We look forward to welcoming Dr. Doreen Ezeife, Dr. Carmen Guerra, and Dr. Tina Hsu to lead us in this conversation which will be moderated by CCTG Senior Investigator Dr. Wendy Parulekar. 

We hope this discussion will encourage participants to consider strategies for increasing equitable access to clinical trials for the diverse range of populations who will ultimately receive the treatments. Participants will have an opportunity to ask our panelists questions following the discussion. Doreen Ezeife

Doreen Ezeife 

Dr. Doreen Ezeife is a Staff Medical Oncologist at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre in Calgary, Alberta. She treats lung cancer and breast cancer. Doreen’s research focuses on cancer drug access, drug funding and assessing the value of new cancer treatments.Doreen is the recipient of some prestigious awards for her important research including the American Society of Clinical Oncology Merit Award, Novartis Oncology Young Canadian Investigator Award, Canadian Association of Medical Oncologists’ Fellowship Award, and she has received peer-reviewed grant funding from CIHR, the Alberta Cancer Foundation and Cancer Care Ontario.

Carmen Guerra

Carmen Guerra 

Dr. Carmen Guerra is the Ruth C. and Raymond G. Perelman Professor of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania’s Perelman School of Medicine and the Associate Director of Diversity and Outreach for the Abramson Cancer Center.  Dr. Guerra’s work to advance equity in cancer clinical trial participation includes the development of the joint ASCO-ACCC research statement, Increasing Racial and Ethnic Diversity in Cancer Clinical Trials, development and evaluation of the ASCO-ACCC “Just Ask” unconscious bias training for cancer researchers, the ASCO-ACCC site self-assessment, and the Lazarex IMPACT financial reimbursement program for out-of-pocket costs for patients participating in cancer treatment trials.

Tina Hsu

Tina Hsu 

Dr. Hsu is a medical oncologist at the Ottawa Hospital Cancer Centre and associate professor at the University of Ottawa. She completed a CAMO/CIHR-funded research fellowship in geriatric oncology under the mentorship of Dr. Arti Hurria at City of Hope. She is passionate about improving care for older adults with cancer. Her main interests are improving clinical trial opportunities for older adults and improving care of older adults with cancer in Canada through collaboration and education. She is involved in developing the Canadian Network for Aging and Cancer, a grass roots initiative to connect clinicians, researchers and educators across Canada interested in geriatric oncology which aims to improve health outcomes for older adults with cancer in Canada.
