The spring application deadline is May 31, 2019 Wednesday, May 29, 2019 In recognition of the critical role played by the CCTG throughout her professional career, Dr. Frances Shepherd has provided support for an annual travel award to recognize excellence in clinical trials and translational research within CCTG research projects. The Frances A Shepherd Award will be disbursed to one to two investigators or post-graduate trainees, traveling to present CCTG related work at major international meetings where the material has been accepted for presentation. Each award will be $1000 and offered twice a year. Applicants who have had their research accepted for oral or poster presentation at an international scientific meeting and have not received another award to support their travel are eligible to apply. The application deadline will be set in the spring and fall to coincide with the major international cancer conferences. Earlier this year, Dr. Frances Shepherd, reached out to CCTG to donate part of her Gairdner Award to the group. Dr. Shepherd’s commitment to CCTG has been unwavering for several decades she wanted to support Canadian investigators and recognize the critical role her work with CCTG has had throughout her professional career. Dr. Shepherd felt it was time to “give back” by recognizing the excellence in clinical trials and translational research by supporting CCTG investigators and post-graduate trainees who are traveling to present CCTG work at major international meetings. “Having worked in the medical field for many years now, I am still so proud when I see my fellow colleagues giving back and investing in their own profession. As physicians and researchers, we know first-hand what the system needs and some of us are willing to help provide it. I am sincerely grateful to Dr. Shepherd for her donation to CCTG, and I am particularly happy that she’s dedicated to enhancing the education of our faculty and trainees,” says says Richard Reznick, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences at Queen’s University. Application process and submission requirements are available on the CCTG website. Thank you, Dr. Shepherd, for creating this award and helping to inspire Canadian investigators – your generosity is greatly appreciated.
