Sad news: Dr. Stephen Couban's recent passing

CCTG is grateful for the years of leadership
Dr. Stephen Couban

We are very saddened to share that our esteemed colleague Dr. Stephen Couban passed away on March 19, 2019 at his home in Halifax.

Stephen was a remarkable leader, everyone at CCTG and across the network are grateful for the years of leadership he provided as the Co-Chair of the Hematology Disease Site Committee and Chair of the Leukemia Subcommittee.

Stephen was a dedicated, compassionate physician and countless investigators and students have benefited from his teaching. He shared his expertise freely providing mentorship opportunities to younger investigators across the country and was enthusiastic in his support of CCTG Hematology Young Investigator initiatives.

We have all valued his wisdom, unfailing good will, and insight which contributed enormously to the overall success of CCTG trials, leading to changes in practice and new standards of care in Canada and internationally. We will miss his passion for clinical trials and the science of hematology.

The burial took place in Cape Breton. Online condolences may be viewed or sent to: www.cruikshankhalifaxfuneralhome.com. His family has asked to consider a donation to the Wickwire Fund c/o QEII Foundation or the Friends of Point Pleasant Park.

Sincerely,

Janet E Dancey, MD, FRCPC Director, Canadian Cancer Trials Group (CCTG) Scientific Director, Canadian Cancer Clinical Trials Network
