Dr. Camilla Zimmermann MD, PhD, FRCPC

CCTG Supportive Care Committee Co-Chair

Dr. Zimmermann is internationally known for her research on palliative and supportive care, particularly in the area of early integration of palliative care for patients with cancer. Dr. Camilla Zimmermann is Head of the Division of Palliative Care at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre and the University Health Network, and a Senior Scientist at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre Research Institute. She is also Professor of Medicine and Rose Family Chair in Palliative Medicine and Supportive Care at the University of Toronto.

She has published more than 150 papers in peer-reviewed journals, and is co-editor of the textbook Supportive Oncology.

“Clinical trials in palliative care are essential to build an evidence base, but pose challenges related to recruitment and retention in this highly symptomatic population. Collaborative, multi-centre trials will allow us to provide much-needed answers to many questions about how to improve quality of life and alleviate suffering for patients with advanced cancer.”
