Emi is a lawyer with over 20 years’ experience as a corporate commercial litigator in Calgary, Canada. Emi has been recognized as one of the top 25 female litigators in Canada and as a Litigation Star by Benchmark Litigation. She has been voted by her peers as a “Best Lawyer” in the areas of commercial litigation, appellate advocacy, alternative dispute resolution and employment law. She has also been named one of the leading Canadian commercial litigators by Lexpert Canada. Emi, a never smoker, was diagnosed with lung cancer at the age of 47. Since her diagnosis, Emi has committed to use her advocacy and research skills to further the cause of lung cancer awareness and to advocate for more equitable funding for lung cancer research and better patient outcomes. Since 2020 she has been the Corporate Secretary and member of the Executive and the Board of Directors for Lung Cancer Canada. She has participated in numerous projects to promote lung cancer awareness and funding and to improve the lives of lung cancer patients. She was chosen by the International Association of the Study of Lung Cancer as a “Research Advocacy Star” and will attend the World Lung Conference in Singapore in September 2023.
